Interdisciplinary learning

Students from Secundaria and Bachillerato at SEK-Ciudalcampo have developed different projects in recent weeks that integrate several disciplines at the same time. The subjects of Science and Lengua y Literatura proposed to their students a science fiction story contest that made their readers aware of how to build a better world. Under the motto Thousand words to build a better world, all students were invited to participate with their own works that had not already been awarded in previous competitions. The Lengua y Literatura course also proposed an artistic activity to the students, in which the students expressed their point of view about Don Quixote.

Interdisciplinary learning, one of the International Baccalaureate, –IB– supports students to understand bodies of knowledge from two or more disciplines or subject groups, in order to integrate them and create new understanding. According to the IB, “students demonstrate interdisciplinary understanding when they bring together concepts, methods, or forms of communication from two or more disciplines or established areas of expertise so that they can explain a phenomenon, solve a problem, create a product, or raise a new question in ways that would have been unlikely through a single discipline”
