Students and families of 1st ESO from SEK-Ciudalcampo have carried out different projects related to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the Ethics course, students have worked with their families to identify a problem in the world and solve it through family action. Before starting, the students explained the SDGs to their families.
The students led the project at all times, acting as teachers of their parents and siblings, and working collaboratively. Videos and artistic works were produced to document the process. In the Biology and Technology subjects, a transversal project was created in which the students acted as delegates of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Their task was to prepare an animation in the Scratch programming language, to convince United Nations members to support a protection program for an in-danger animal species of their choice.
In 2015, the UN approved a 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development with the aim of eradicating poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring prosperity for all. The Agenda has 17 Sustainable Development Goals that include proposals for the elimination of poverty, the fight against climate change, education, equality for women, defense of the environment or the design of cities. Each objective has specific goals that must be achieved in the next 15 years. At SEK Ciudalcampo the whole school is working to meet these goals.
