The 6th Conference on Marine Biology, Sailing and Tourism was held at SEK-Ciudalcampo on 23 May. It was attended by students from year 4 ESO and was organised by the University Camilo José Cela Chair in Maritime Studies, the Nautical Tourism Area of the Royal Spanish Naval League (RLNE) and the Spanish Association of Tourism Professionals (AEPT).
The event was opened by María Cruz Lagar, Principal of SEK-Ciudalcampo, Francisco Javier Aragón, Director of the Chair in Maritime Studies at University Camilo José Cela, Óscar Bernedo, Director of the Nautical Tourism Area of the Royal Spanish Naval League.
The event was divided into three blocks, during which the speakers gave presentations. In the first block, Olga González, member of the tourism, leisure and aquatic environment research group, talked about nautical tourism, different activities and popularity of this tourist offer.
The second block featured Oscar Bernedo, director of the Nautical Tourism Area of the Royal Spanish Naval League, who gave an introduction to the world of sailing as a sporting activity, as well as the history of this hobby, nomenclature, types of vessels that are currently used, directions regarding the wind and basic operation of the sailing vessels.
In the third and final block of the event, Andrés Arbiza, member of the Nautical Tourism area of the RLNE, and Jenny Alexandra Zuluaga, director of the Marine Biology area and Coordination of Educational Projects of the Institute of Astrobiology of Colombia (IAC) and professor of at UCJC, focussed on awareness and environmental protection of the sea and responsible practices and astrobiology in the marine environment.
