Ana Fernández, teacher at SEK-Ciudalcampo, nominated for the ‘Best Teacher in Spain’ award

The SEK Ciudalcampo International School teacher, Ana Fernández Martínez, has been nominated for the Educa Abanca Awards as ‘Best Teacher in Spain 2018’. Fernández teaches Spanish Language and Literature at SEK-Ciudalcampo.

These awards, held for the second time in Spain, seek to publicly recognise good teaching practices and award the best teachers chosen according to a series of variables published on the Educa platform, made up by teachers of different educational stages. To be nominated, students and family members must present their proposal, so being part of this list of nominations is already a reward for teachers.

Ana Fernández has a degree in History, and has spent her career at SEK Education Group, where she started 30 years ago, at SEK-El Castillo. She has also been a teacher at SEK-Dublin, where she lived and worked for 7 years. Fernández joined SEK-Ciudalcampo as a teacher in 1999. Together with Carmen Cambón, chemistry teacher, she obtained the SEK Award in 2016 to best secondary educational practice, for “The Harkness table: an environment for the development of MYP skills

As a teacher, Ana Fernández has focused her efforts on transmitting to her students the importance of Spanish Language as a social, academic and reflective tool through activities such as interviews with various authors, the creation of literary texts, poetic recitals or the “language booklet”.

The list of the ten nominees will be published on 5 December 2018 and, in February 2019, the awards for Best Teacher in Spain will be presented at the 2nd World Education Congress in Santiago de Compostela.
